The West Bradenton campus is an older church in an older building that is filled with some of the most fabulous people you will ever meet. The children’s ministry has been led by volunteers who have done a great job and are excited to have some leadership. They really desire a fresh start in many areas to help the church reach the community, and especially young families.
Before we came, the church had begun a special offering designated to re-doing the children’s space. This is a huge blessing! I believe that the environment or the space or the decor does not determine whether or not you have a great kidmin. However, this opportunity will allow us to create a more welcoming atmosphere for guests and a space that will function even better for our kiddos.
The team and I began our first meeting by determining what needs must be addressed immediately, what needs to be addressed over the next six months, and what needs to be addressed long term. We compiled quite a list.
So, here are the questions I’m working through here:
- We don’t want to do too much too fast. What are the things that we truly need to do now? What are the things that we need to be patient with?
- How can I best connect with our people and learn our culture?
- What are our greatest opportunities to reach young families in this community and how do we best help our kids grow closer to Him?
